Becoming a “great” graphic designer

I believe in the power of education. To become a “great” graphic designer takes time, study and the courage to experiment.

Each assignment has its own challenges. You must combine your own sensibilities with your clients’, as well as review the genre and put a fresh spin on old ideas.

You will learn which colors and fonts compliment each other and why. Learning which are right or wrong for your projects means spending time studying the shapes, curves and lines of each font. What emotions are drawn with experimentation of fonts, colors, negative space and letterspacing? This can make or break a layout.

I have been a graphic designer with a focus on branding for more than 25 years. A graduate of the School of Visual Arts in New York City and a graduate of the web design program at The New School (now Parsons School of Design). I also received a certificate in sustainability issues from New Jersey Learns.

Over the years I have designed and branded hundreds of clients around the U.S.A. and abroad, from independent authors and artists to small businesses and large corporations.

I am a part-time teacher at the Wallace Elementary School and an art teacher at the Little Bee Learning Studio, both in Hoboken, NJ. I have also taught at Pratt Institute and Parsons School of Design.

I will answer your questions thoughtfully and advise you on your future career as a graphic designer.
