Creative Patches and Gift Batches

I don’t know about you, but I love ice cream. For the last 6 months or more we have been trying every flavor of Talenti gelato. Not only is this gelato delicious, but, the containers have a screw top lid, perfect for storing candy, coffee, nuts… all sorts of things.

So, when the containers started accumulating, I said, “hey, why don’t we bake cookies and decorate them for our friends.”

Our plan was set and now we just had to decide what type of cookies to make. (Sugar cookies with red glitter, chocolate chip, and chocolate chip with walnuts.)

Sappi - Snowflakes & Surprises

About two weeks before Christmas, a box arrived from Sappi, the paper company and I was so excited when I opened it. Inside the “Snowflakes & Surprises” marketing package were cards and envelopes, sheets of two-sided paper, tags, a gift bag and all were custom designed.

When I saw this I knew it would be perfect for our cookie gifts. It was one of smartest and certainly timely gifts I’d ever received. What a brilliant way to advertise their paper products all while we use them and share them with others.

We also needed to buy tissue paper, bows and ribbon, which we wanted for our holiday gifts anyway and of course the ingredients for the cookies.

It was a fun and creative project to work on together. Deciding which paper design of the series would look the best on the containers, and matching up colored tissue paper, bows and tags. We also lined the inside with a sheet of wax paper so the cookies would be protected and they wouldn’t ruin the colored tissue paper.

One issue we ran into was the best way to stick the paper to the container. At first we tried glue, but it wouldn’t hold, so we went with very sticky tape, hidden on the inside as the paper wrapped around.

As you can see, they turned out just lovely and those that received them, enjoyed them inside and out.

I believe in reusing, recycling and doing my part to make less trash overall. Since the package from Sappi was plentiful, there are still pieces to be used for the next batches or other gifts. My hope is that after munching down the cookies, my friends reused the containers too.
