TEDx Jersey City Women – Momentum 2015

Diverse and inspiring women took the stage at Art House Productions on May 28, 2015 for the 1st TEDx Jersey City Women event! This year’s theme was “Momentum.”

I have attended two previous TEDx Jersey City events and always find the speakers enlighten us with their unique vision, innovative products and leave us thinking about what we can do as well.

The evening was a mix of product innovators, social thinkers, performance artists, musicians/environmentalists and a museum director.

The 1st session began via video from the main TEDx Women event in Monterey, California and broadcasted simultaneously in over 100 countries. Hosted by Pat Mitchell, June Cohen and Kelly Stoetzel the speakers were:Achenyo Idachaba, a green entrepreneur, who saw an environmental problem and came up with a creative artistic solution; Robin Murphy, a disaster roboticist, who is helping save time in rescue operations; Rana el Kaliouby, emotion analytics expert, who thinks we’re in need of personal one-on-one contact, but from our computers and has been working with a team on an application that has taught computers to read our emotions; and Christina Mercando, founder of Ringly, who has designed jewelry women would want to wear that have computers inside them! Fashion first followed by technology!)

The 2nd and live session featured: Annie Polland, Senior Vice President for Programs & Education at the Lower East Side Tenement Museum, who opened our eyes to the way life was for women working and caring for their families in the late 1800s; Morley, accompanied by marvelous musicians and a young dancer (The link between social justice and the environment in song form); Dr. Ellis Williams, (Finding Justice in the Land of the Free, Beyond Baltimore); and excerpts from “In Full Color” performed by Jennifer Cendana Armas and Ines Garcia.

The TEDx team (Alicia Ruth, Anne McTernan, Caley Vickerman, Nicole Darsney, Yvonne Vairma, Jack Halpin, Celeste Landa, and George Fernandez, always find the most interesting people to share with us, Thank you!

The 3rd TEDx Jersey City is in the planning stages and should be coming this Fall.
